Bio

Springing from a family of musicians and growing up in Oakland, California, with its rich cultural diversity, provided Beethovan with just the right atmosphere in which to cultivate his artistic talents. He graduated from Oakland’s Magnet Academy for Performing Arts at Skyline High School. His first role was Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. During these years he also worked with The San Francisco Bay Revels and The African American Shakespeare Company.

After graduating from Skyline, Beethovan moved to Seattle, where he had been accepted at the prestigious Cornish College of the Arts, and where he received a B.F.A in Acting. Seattle was Beethovan’s home for 7 years. During that period he worked with various theatre companies, including: Seattle Shakespeare, Seattle Rep, Seattle Opera, The Village Theatre, Theatre Schmeater, A.C.T theatre, Book-all Over and WoodenO.

Then he moved to Chicago, where the School at Steppenwolf welcomed him into their 6-week summer intensive program. He worked at Lookingglass theatre, Life Line Theatre, A Crew of Patches, Collabroaction Theatre and Victory Gardens Theatre. During this time with the latter he performed in MY Children MY Africa. For this role he received the Ossie Davis Award.

His next stop was Southern Methodist University, where he is studying for an M.F.A. in theatre. During his summer off from school Beethovan was acting at Shakespeare Santa Cruz, Colorado Shakespeare Festival and Aurora Theatre Company.

His next stop was New York City. There he spent two years at Seth Barish’s Barrow Group School, Upright Citizens Brigade and HB studios working to hone his acting skills.
